Upcoming Curiosity Café: Moral Intuitions
Tuesday, January 21st, 2025, 6-8:30 pm (14 Madison Ave, Toronto, ON M5R 2S1)
Our next café will be held on Tuesday, January 21st at the Madison Avenue Pub. The topic of our next café will be: Moral Intuitions.
A quick note about ticketing (as of January 2nd):
We are implementing a change to our Curiosity Café ticketing system! All of our tickets are now Pay-What-You-Can, with an important exception** (see below). It is important to us to be transparent with all of you, so here’s our reasoning:
- We want to promote $ accessibility by only asking our attendees to pay what they can, while also allowing us to grow our capacity as an organization. We have some exciting new initiatives planned for 2025, so think of your ticket as an investment in our community and future work.
- We want to encourage people who get tickets to actually attend so that as many people as can come get to attend.
- This requires less back-end monitoring to adjust ticket category quantities on Eventbrite.
As before, our suggested donation amount is $10, but this amount is a very generic recommendation based only on our needs as an organization. We encourage you to adjust what you are paying according to this amount and your own financial circumstances.
**We will still have 5 free tickets available for our attendees. If paying anything at all is not financially feasible for you, or our ticketing system presents some other barrier for you, please contact our Director of Community Programs, Sophia, at sophia@beingnbecoming.org. These tickets will be first come, first served, no questions asked! You can expect to hear back from her within 72 hours.
Past Events
Collective Phenomenology: A Workshop on Shared Experience
On July 3rd, we hosted the second event of our experimental event series: Collective Phenomenology: A workshop on shared experience!
At this workshop, we did a series of perceptual experiments, embodied experiments, and concrete phenomenology. Together, we explored what these experiences were like by sharing them with one another, developing our own perspectives and attending to how and where our perspectives converged and diverged.
Experimental Series: Midwifing a Wisdom Commons
Our inaugural Experimental Series event! In collaboration with Peter Limberg of The Stoa we met on April Fool’s Day (April 1st) to create a wisdom commons, with an emphasis on exploring our foolishness.
Public Philosophy Soiree
Thank you for coming to our Philosophy Soirée and the official launch of Being and Becoming: A Community for the Curious on January 19th! We are so grateful that you joined us and contributed to the community we are building here in Toronto.
Check out the keynote speeches and panel Q&A on our YouTube channel.
Curiosity Café: Bi-weekly discussion on the questions that matter
Every two weeks, we invite members of our community to come out to the Madison Avenue Pub (14 Madison Ave) for Curiosity Café, a collaborative exploration of a chosen topic or question. Through these events, we aim to build our community of people who like to think deeply about life’s big questions, and provide each other with some philosophical tools to dig deeper into whatever it is we are most curious about that week.
Posters from our past Cafés are below. To read about the discussions we had, check out the recaps available in our newsletter.
